World Rabies Day
Rabies is a preventable viral disease of mammals that is transmitted by the bite of an infected animal. Most cases of rabies occur in wild animals such as bats, foxes, raccoons and skunks. However, without responsible vaccination, our pets and humans can become infected as well. Around the world, more than 55,000 people die each year from rabies (mostly in Asia and Africa where vaccination is less common). World Rabies Day is September 28, 2013. Visit http://www.cdc.gov/rabies/index.html and http://rabiesalliance.org/world-rabies-day/ for more information on this important disease.
